Interview with Melissa Hamilton, director at the London based interior design company - Veere Grenney.
1.Were you always interested in design?
Like most people who love (and live) this industry, I was rearranging furniture at home since I was small. The layout of my bedroom would change regularly, in spite of its humble proportions! I grew up in a disused mill that my father had renovated, so the power to change and mould a space to one's needs and wants has long been tangible in my mind.
2.What inspires you today?
On a daily basis it has got to be Instagram! I follow so many interesting people that there is always something there to inspire me. Sweden: I have just finished a 5 year project near Stockholm and there is no end of beautiful craftsmanship and pleasing imagery to see; from the traditional to the modern Scandinavian. Otherwise, I will hit the library in our office and go to Billy Baldwin, Frances Elkin, Parish Hadley and many more, or just browse stock at my favourite antique dealers.
3.Where do you like to hang out in your spare time when you’re switching off and relaxing?
Walking in the middle of nowhere with my 2 year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier Charlie, and my husband Mark …followed by a delicious pub lunch!
4.Do you have any rules?
Be organised! And always prepare.
5.Who are your favourite designers currently working in the industry?
There are so many to choose from, but Studio Peregalli are, in my humble opinion, genius and we have also recently seen lovely work from Maddox Creative.
6.What exciting new projects do you have on the horizon?
We have a number of exciting projects at the moment from an apartment in the fantastic Neve Zedek quarter of Tel Aviv, to a townhouse in New York. Closer to home we have a townhouse in Belgravia, working with clients who have an exciting view on design that is allowing us some real space to be creative.
